Specialist medical physics services

Provision of specialist medical physics services, including quality assurance, radiation dose optimisation, and equipment testing for breast screening diagnostic imaging systems.

  • Provide specialist medical physics services to support the Wiltshire Breast Screening Service
  • Provide radiation dose and image-quality optimisation advice and support for mammographic imaging systems in line with NHSBSP guidance and IRMER 2017 regulations
  • Carry out routine and acceptance testing of x-ray mammography systems, ultrasound scanners, specimen cabinets and reporting monitors, including post-breakdown or component-replacement testing
  • Calculate and report mean glandular dose across mammography units, including data collection and analysis
  • Provide equipment selection, procurement and commissioning advice to ensure clinical safety and performance
  • Coordinate with radiographers and the Screening Quality Assurance Service, including staff training and professional development activities
