The East service receives food waste from five collection routes serving Annan, Dalbeattie, Dumfries, Gretna and Lockerbie, with initial reception within approximately five road miles of the Dumfries MBT plant. Both lots require storage and anaerobic digestion treatment, with chain-of-custody waste duty-of-care reporting at least quarterly.

What the contract covers

Services contract

Collection, reception, transport and anaerobic digestion treatment of household and commercial kerbside food waste, including compliant storage and recycling traceability.

  • Suitable skip with seals on the door and movable cover for food waste that may contain category 3 animal byproducts
  • Weekly collection, transport and replacement of the skip
  • Anaerobic digestion treatment at a suitable licensed facility approved to PAS 110, so the food waste can be accounted for as recycled under the waste hierarchy by SEPA’s WDF
  • Waste duty of care information for the whole chain of custody
  • Suitable reception facility for household and commercial food waste from the Council’s five collection routes, initially within approximately 5 miles by road of Dumfries MBT plant
  • Storage, transport if required, and treatment by certified PAS 110 anaerobic digestion, at the initial or a separate suitable facility
  • Treatment and recycling so the food waste can be accounted for as recycled under the waste hierarchy by SEPA’s WDF
